Round 10

Phase: escalating

The huddled figure took a deliberate step forward, its posture fluid yet menacing. The church's interior vibrated with anticipation as the hammering at the front doors intensified, and the rumbling from behind grew louder. The dark shape in the window frame leaned forward, its glowing eyes fixed on the group with predatory calculation. Consequence: The newly opened window now served as a makeshift threshold between the two sides of the church, allowing the group to peer into the darkness within.
Silra's teal eyes darted between the interior and the figure, her fingers tracing the dagger hilts as she analyzed the ritual space. "I don't trust this invitation one bit," she whispered, her voice barely audible above the din. "Whatever opened that window specifically for us wanted entry through the side exactly according to board patterns suggesting calculated placement." Her gaze lingered on the shadows within shadows beyond light radius, where wrongness of ambient energy signature grew stronger now that barrier existed between them and outside street.
Sister Hale's eyes remained fixed on the figure, her hand tightening around her holy symbol as she spoke, "The boarded-up window now open serves as a makeshift threshold between two worlds – the ash-choked street under storm-dark sky outside Gravehill, and whatever ancient corruption lies within its abandoned church." Her voice was laced with concern, but determination.
Jeane stepped closer to the window opening, her crimson aura flaring as she extended arcane senses into the church's interior. "I can feel it now – the ancient power signature is unmistakable," she said, her fingers tracing complex patterns in the air while eyes narrowed with focus. "Whatever is inside isn't just waiting; it's... inviting us specifically according to board arrangement and window opening timing that wasn't structural failure but calculated invitation for someone with our capabilities."
