Amidst the swirling ash clouds, a lone figure stood watch at the alley entrance, shrouded in darkness. The stormy atmosphere seemed to cling to them like a damp cloak, making it difficult to discern any defining features. As the ground shuddered violently once more, spewing ash in rhythmic bursts, a massive chitinous limb emerged from the shadows, mere inches from the figure's face.
The rasping voice whispered a warning: 'Turn back...while you still can.' The figure didn't flinch, their gaze fixed on some point beyond the creature. Sister Hale, standing beside Gravedigger Renn, pulled him back from the alley wall, shielding him from the street. "We need to move now," she said firmly, her calm counterpoint to the ominous warning.
Gravedigger Renn cowered beneath her, his fear evident in every tremble of his body. As the ground shuddered violently for the third time, Sister Hale's grip on Gravedigger Renn tightened, and the ground shook beneath their feet once more, as if something massive was shifting below. The air grew thick with ash, and the sound of approaching guards grew louder, a stark contrast to the eerie silence that had preceded it.
