Round 72 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

Sister Hale's recent committed turns show her struggling against an unseen force as she tries to pull Gravedigger Renn back towards her. She mentions the party needs to coordinate their efforts, and she hopes Jeane and Silra can hear her and make their way to the alley where they are currently trapped. Sister Hale believes that whatever is pulling them down into the tunnels under the city knows they are getting close to something important, and she wants Gravedigger Renn to share what he knows about "the awakening" before they try to escape.
I grit my teeth against the pull, feeling the rope burn through my cloak. "Renn! What did you see? Tell me everything—now!" My hand tightens around his arm, not letting him slip away. We're trapped between the city guard and whatever's under our feet. Can't afford secrets anymore. This is exactly why I wanted to keep us together—too many threats in too small an area. We can't afford to be split up like this. I try to crane my neck backward for any sign of Jeane or Silra, but the darkness swallows everything except the narrow strip of alley ahead. Renn, what did you see back there before all this started? Anything that might help? My boots scuff against loose brick as I plant wide and brace. The pull is relentless—like trying to hold a ship's anchor—but I refuse to let them drag us deeper without a fight.
We need to coordinate somehow. I shout toward the street even though I can't see it anymore. Jeane! Silra! Can you hear me? We're in the alley between the butcher shop and the tailor's—if you can make your way here, we might have a chance to regroup! My breathing comes hard as I strain against the force. Every muscle is burning now, and my back is pressed flat against rough brick. Renn, if you know anything about what's under this city, NOW would be an excellent time to share! I turn to face him fully, ignoring the pull for a moment. Listen, we're already in over our heads here. Those guards aren't just chasing us—they're hunting something specific, and I don't think it's just us. Whatever's down there... I gesture vaguely toward the grating with my free hand ...it knows we're getting close to something important. That's why it's trying to pull us down. The words come out more harshly than intended. You said you saw something when you were digging graves—the awakening, you called it. What did that mean? And don't give me any more vague warnings or religious mumbo-jumbo. Tell me exactly what you saw, what you think is happening under this city, and why those things are trying to pull us down there!
