Phase: escalating

Silra moved immediately to the door, hand on dagger hilt, her usually cool demeanor fracturing into visible tension. The heavy silence of the church was shattered by the sound of boots on stone, and everyone's heart rate spiked in unison. The woman who entered was young, maybe twenty-five, with long brown hair pulled back in a messy bun. She wore casual weekend clothes—jeans and a loose sweater—and carried a half-empty bottle of wine in one hand like she'd been about to enjoy a quiet evening at home when curiosity got the better of her.

"Who are you?" Silra demanded, her voice sharp and unwelcoming. The woman—Clarice, she introduced herself with a nervous stammer—explained that she lived next door and had heard noises. Her eyes darted past Silra into the church, taking in the flickering candles and the group of women gathered inside. She shifted her weight nervously from foot to foot, clearly uncomfortable but also curious.

Halie felt a deep unease settle in her chest as she watched Clarice stand her ground despite Silra's clear warning. This wasn't how any of this was supposed to go—we're meant to be operating in secret, building our little community away from prying eyes. But here we are, exposed and vulnerable.

"Silra," Halie called out softly, "maybe I should talk to her? Woman-to-woman?" Before anyone could respond, she stepped forward into the doorway, positioning herself between Clarice and Silra's pointed dagger. Her gentle face showed concern rather than aggression as she addressed the intruder directly.

Jeane, however, was not pleased. This is getting out of hand, she thought. We're supposed to be building a secretive all-female harem, not dealing with nosy neighbors. She stepped forward, her wings folding tighter against her back as she assessed the situation—this woman Clarice was curious but not hostile yet, which gave them room to maneuver.

"Halie," Jeane said, her voice carrying authority, "stand down. Let me handle this." She focused on Clarice now, looking into her eyes with an intensity that made most people uncomfortable. "You want to know..."
