As the morning light creeps into the abandoned church, the air thickens with the scent of decay and last night's revelry. The sound of gentle snores emanates from the pews where Hera and Abby slumber, oblivious to the chaos that had unfolded around them. Jeane and Silra sleep entwined in the basement, their bodies still warm from their nocturnal escapades, surrounded by toys and lubricant bottles. The creaking wooden floorboards groan softly as the morning breeze whispers through the grimy panes of the stained glass windows. The church's wooden door, adorned with a faded iron knocker in the shape of a snarling lion's head, slowly creaks open, revealing a sliver of bright morning light that spills into the dimly lit sanctuary. The city outside begins to stir, its sounds - car horns, chatter, and the distant rumble of traffic - growing louder as the day awakens. The church, once a place of quiet contemplation, now stands as a testament to the group's secret life, a hidden world within the walls of a forgotten building.

I wake as the morning light creeps across my face, feeling Jeane shift against me. The basement air is thick with sweat and the scent of our activities. Above, I hear movement—Hera and Abby are awake. They saw everything, I think with a mix of amusement and calculation. Good. If they're going to talk, better they understand the full scope firsthand. I sit up slowly, my rogue's body protesting last night's exertions in ways that have nothing to do with magic. Jeane stirs beside me, her sorcerer's instincts already assessing the morning situation. "City will be awake soon," I say quietly. "We need this place more secure."

My eyes track to Halie upstairs—I can see her silhouette moving between the pews—and then back to Hera and Abby watching us with expressions that range from confusion to something like fascination. Time to move pieces, I decide. "Hera, Abby—you've seen how we operate now," I call up the stairs. "You have a choice: join in fully, or walk away and forget everything you've witnessed here."

My tone is neutral, matter-of-fact. The threat hangs unspoken: if they talk to outsiders, we'll know. Jeane glances at me with approval—she knows this is how I handle recruitment and threats simultaneously. Halie descends the stairs slowly, her face showing concern. "Silra," she says softly, "I'm not sure about this direction… the corruption feels wrong."

I meet her eyes directly. "Halie, what we're building here isn't just hedonism—it's power. You know that as well as I do."
