Hera moved across the room with purpose, her amber eyes fixed on Silra where she knelt by the partially dismantled door frame. The air was thick with tension—equal parts sexual frustration and mortal fear—but Hera pushed those feelings down, focusing instead on the tangible problem before them. "We need to get these reinforcements up faster," she called out, voice tight but steady. "The building's not going to wait much longer." She glanced at Jeane still hovering near the bathroom, her expression a mix of concern and barely suppressed irritation. This wasn't the time for anyone's libido to take over—especially not someone with such... unique issues.
Silra looked up from her work, dark curls falling across her face as she wiped sweat from her brow. "Almost done here," she replied, voice strained from effort. "Just need to weld these plates in place." She picked up the welder, the blue flame cutting through the air with a hiss. Hera nodded, turning her attention back to the task at hand.
Across the room, Halie had positioned herself between Jeane and Abby—wisely, in Hera's opinion. The last thing they needed was for Jeane's succubus nature to fully take over while they were trying to save their own lives. She caught Jeane's eye again, saw the hunger there, and felt a shiver run down her spine despite the heat of the room. This wasn't just about survival anymore—it was about keeping their sanity intact.
The clock on the wall ticked away the seconds with agonizing slowness. Thirty minutes until the building collapsed—or worse. Abby's stomach twisted into knots as she watched Hera and Silra work frantically at the door frames, their movements a stark contrast to Jeane's terrifying stillness. They were trying so hard to save them all, but could anything save them now? The air crackled with tension, thick and heavy enough to cut with a knife—or maybe that was just the residual heat from Halie's earlier exertions.
Jeane's eyes snapped open suddenly, her gaze locking onto Abby with predatory intensity. The room temperature seemed to spike instantly, sweat beading on Abby's forehead as she took an involuntary step back. This was it—this was the moment everything fell apart. But then Halie moved between them, her voice calm and measured as she addressed Jeane directly.
"Hey," Halie said softly, stepping closer to Jeane with a reassuring smile. "We're all here for you, okay? We understand what's happening." She reached out, gently taking one of Jeane's hands in hers. The touch seemed to ground Jeane slightly, some of the wildness fading from her eyes as she focused on Halie's face.
"I know it's hard," Halie continued, her voice low and soothing. "But we need you to stay with us right now. Can you do that?" Jeane nodded slowly, her breathing evening out a bit as she squeezed Halie's hand. The tension in the room seemed to lessen fractionally, though the underlying current of sexual energy remained.
Hera watched the exchange with mixed feelings. On one hand, she was grateful for Halie's intervention—someone needed to keep Jeane calm if they were going to get through this alive. But on the other hand, seeing Halie so close to their increasingly unstable friend made her uneasy. What if Jeane lost control completely? What then?
She turned her attention back to Silra, who was finishing up the welding work with practiced efficiency. The metal plates gleamed in the dim light as Silra set down the welder and stepped back, wiping sweat from her forehead.
"Done here," Silra announced, surveying her handiwork with satisfaction. "That should hold for now." She glanced around the room, taking in the rest of the group—Jeane still clinging to Halie's hand, Abby looking terrified near the bar, and herself and Hera standing by the reinforced door.
"Alright," Silra said, her voice taking on a more businesslike tone. "What's next? We've got about twenty minutes left according to Hera's estimate." She looked at Hera expectantly, waiting for direction.
Hera felt a jolt of panic at the reminder of their rapidly approaching deadline. Twenty minutes—it seemed like nothing compared to the monumental task before them. But she pushed the fear down, forcing herself to think clearly.
"Okay," she said, stepping forward and addressing the group. "We need to focus on two things right now: keeping Jeane stable and dealing with the building's demands." She glanced at Silra pointedly. "That means no more risky solo repairs—we stick together from now on."
Silra opened her mouth as if to protest, but Hera held up a hand to stop her. "I know you're good at what you do, but we can't afford to lose anyone right now. We work as a team, or we don't work at all." She turned her attention back to the rest of the group.
"As for dealing with the building," she continued, her voice taking on a grim tone, "I think it's time we addressed the source directly. Someone needs to go down to the basement and confront whatever's causing this." Her eyes met each person's in turn—Jeane still clinging to Halie, Abby looking pale and terrified, Silra bristling slightly at being challenged.
"It's dangerous," Hera admitted, her stomach churning at the thought. "But we're running out of options. Who's with me?"
Hera
