The heat in the room became something living, breathing, demanding. Jeane's skin glistened with sweat, her wings flexing as if fighting against their own instincts. The temperature spiked again—forty degrees above normal now, easily, maybe more—and the air grew thick enough to taste. Musky and sweet, cloying, invasive, it filled Abby's mouth when she breathed in. Behind them, the floor groaned like a dying animal.

"I understand the parameters fully," Jeane hissed back at Hera, voice barely controlled silk over grinding teeth. Her grip tightened on the human woman's wrist until bone should have creaked under that pressure, but Hera didn't flinch. Stupid brave bitch. "You think you can command me? The contract is binding, little human. Every second wasted adds to your penalty." Her words vibrated something in the air itself—Abby felt it prickle across her skin like static electricity.

The temperature spiked again. Fifty degrees above normal now? Sixty? It was hard to think straight through the haze of heat and pheromones thick enough to choke on. Behind them, Silra's voice broke the tension with a strangled curse as she stared at the floor between her feet. The concrete there had cracked audibly—deep fissures snaking out from where the building's foundation met the wall. She scrambled back faster than Abby had ever seen the engineer move before.

"Mierda—mierda!" Silra gasped, eyes wide with panic as she stared at the groaning floor beneath their feet. "We don't have minutes now! Seconds maybe! The whole fucking structure is about to—" Her words cut off as another violent tremor shook the building. A rain of dust and debris fell from the ceiling, coating everything in a layer of grey powder that made Abby cough.

Jeane's attention snapped to Silra like a predator scenting prey, her crimson eyes gleaming with something hungry and furious. "You," she snarled, voice dripping with contempt as she released Hera's wrist and took a step toward the engineer. "You think you can just walk away from this? Leave me here alone with these—" Another violent tremor cut off her words mid-sentence, sending Abby stumbling sideways into the wall. The entire building moaned like a dying beast, concrete cracking audibly everywhere now as the structure failed faster than even Silra's panicked estimates had suggested.

The temperature spiked again—seventy degrees above normal? Eighty? It was impossible to tell through the haze of heat and desperation. Abby's heart hammered in her chest, conflicted by terror for her own safety and genuine concern for Silra. She couldn't just let Jeane hurt the engineer, but what could she do against a succubus intent on murder? Her eyes darted around the room frantically, looking for anything that might serve as a weapon or distraction.

There was nothing useful within arm's reach—just the scattered remains of Silra's abandoned toolkit and the still-grinning sybian sitting ominously in the corner like some kind of obscene lifeboat. The building chose that moment to deliver its verdict with another catastrophic groan and a rain of falling debris that forced everyone to cover their heads protectively. When Abby looked up through her arms, she saw the ceiling above them bowing visibly inward, concrete cracking like dry bone.

"Everyone out!" Silra screamed over the roar of collapsing structure. "Now! Move your fucking asses or we all die here!" She was already sprinting for the door, her engineer's training overriding whatever fear might have paralyzed a lesser person. Jeane snarled something inarticulate and lunged after her, wings half-spread as if preparing to tackle the fleeing woman mid-stride.

Abby didn't think—she just reacted. She launched herself forward with every ounce of strength she possessed, tackling Jeane from the side before those powerful arms could close around Silra's retreating form. The impact sent them both crashing to the floor in a tangle of limbs and curses as the world around them came apart at the seams. Concrete cracked, glass shattered, and the building screamed its death rattle loud enough to drown out even Jeane's furious shrieking as Abby struggled desperately to keep her pinned.

The last thing Abby saw before darkness claimed her was the ceiling above them giving way completely, a avalanche of concrete and rebar descending like the hand of God.
