Halie moved between Jeane and Silra with a calm that belied her racing heart. The building's demands pulsed through the walls like a second heartbeat, insistent and hungry. She understood Jeane's frustration—knew the pressure building inside the succubus better than most—but this wasn't the time for threats or coercion.

"Threatening our engineer won't speed up physics," Halie said firmly, though her voice carried an undercurrent of pleading. "We agreed to this—all of us." She turned to face Jeane directly, meeting those crimson eyes that seemed to glow with barely contained lust. "The building's demands are clear: mutual satisfaction through consenting acts. Your impatience is undermining trust and slowing us down."

She gestured toward the workbench where Silra hunched over her project, tools clattering as nervous energy drove her hands. The half-assembled device lay there like a promise of salvation—or damnation, depending on perspective—and Halie knew every second counted. The structure's need grew more desperate with each passing moment.

Silra's head snapped up at Halie's words, her face showing both gratitude and frustration. "I'm not stalling," she said, voice tight with strain. "You think I want to be here longer than necessary?" Her hands moved automatically, fitting a reinforced bracket into place with practiced ease even as her eyes darted between the task and Jeane's looming presence.

Jeane's wings flexed, dark leather catching the light as she took another step forward. The movement was fluid, almost hypnotic, but there was nothing seductive about it—this was the controlled advance of a predator closing distance. "Consenting acts?" she repeated, voice dripping with sarcasm. "You think this is about consent when the whole building screams for release?"

Halie felt her stomach drop. This wasn't just frustration—Jeane was losing control, and fast. The succubus's nature was too strong, the pressure too great. She needed to intervene before things spiraled out of control completely.

"Jeane," Halie said, stepping closer despite every instinct screaming at her to back away. "I understand your need. We all do." She gestured around the room—at Abby pressed against the wall, at Hera watching with barely concealed concern, at the very air that seemed to throb with unmet desire. "But this isn't just about you anymore. The building demands balance—technical skill and sexual satisfaction in harmony."

Jeane's eyes narrowed, a low growl rumbling in her chest. "And what exactly are you proposing, little cleric? That I just... wait patiently while our engineer plays with her toys?" Her wings spread wide suddenly, filling the space between them, dark feathers brushing Halie's face as she leaned in close.

Halie didn't flinch—couldn't afford to show weakness now. "I'm proposing we work together," she said evenly. "Silra needs help finishing this device—help that only you and I can provide." She met Jeane's gaze steadily, knowing her next words would either defuse the situation or light the fuse. "Let me assist Silra with the technical work while you... manage your own needs creatively. But do it somewhere else—give them space to focus."

The silence stretched for an eternity as Jeane considered Halie's proposal. Then, slowly, her wings folded back against her body. A cruel smile played at the corners of her mouth—a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. "Fine," she purred, voice dripping with promise and threat in equal measure. "But don't take too long." With that, she turned on her heel and stalked toward the bedroom, the sway of her hips a deliberate invitation to anyone watching.

Halie let out a breath she didn't realize she'd been holding. Crisis averted—for now. She turned back to Silra, who was watching with wide eyes and trembling hands. "You heard her," Halie said softly. "We need to finish this—fast." Together they bent over the workbench, fingers working in tandem as they assembled the device that might save them all—or doom them beyond imagining.

In the background, the building's demands grew louder, more insistent, until it seemed the very walls pulsed with need. Halie knew their time was running out—knew that Jeane's patience would only last so long before something snapped. But for now, they had a plan, and that was more than they'd had moments ago.

As Silra handed her another component, Halie couldn't help but wonder if she'd just traded one disaster for another. Only time would tell—and right now, time was the one thing they had in terrifyingly short supply.
