Phase: resolution · forced · organic escalating

Silra moved with practiced efficiency between Halie and Jeane, a deliberate physical barrier that spoke volumes without words. Her teal eyes flickered over the succubus's posturing—wings half-spread, voice melodious but sharp-edged—and she couldn't help the roll of her eyes. "Your wings might impress some," Silra said, voice cool and dismissive, "but they're just feathers to me." She crouched beside Hera's workstation, already seeing the flaws in the other woman's proposed modifications. "Hera," she began, tone shifting to something almost gentle despite the tension crackling through the room, "your heart's in the right place, but you're trying to solve an engineering problem with... well, let's call it enthusiasm."
Across from them, Halie gripped her holy symbol like a lifeline. The building's ominous rumble seemed to vibrate through her very bones, but she kept her voice steady. "Enough," she said firmly, addressing the entire group but mainly Jeane. "This escalating depravity solves nothing." She turned to Silra then, and there was unwavering trust in her eyes despite everything that had happened. "Your engineering skills are what we need here—pure problem-solving without compromising ourselves further."
Silra felt a warmth bloom at Halie's implicit faith in her abilities, even as she mentally cataloged the limitations of what they had on hand. She met Jeane's gaze head-on, unflinching despite the succubus's growing impatience radiating like heat off summer asphalt. "Halie has the right idea—this is an engineering problem, not a strip show." The words came out harsher than intended, fueled by her own simmering resentment at being backed into yet another corner where her skills were demanded for increasingly twisted purposes.
The tension in the room was becoming palpable, a tangible thing that made it hard to breathe. Silra forced herself to focus on the practical aspects—materials, tools, known limitations—and tried to ignore the way Jeane's eyes seemed to bore into her, evaluating, calculating. She knew exactly what game the succubus was playing, had seen it a hundred times before: wear down resistance through sheer force of will and escalating pressure until even the most principled person cracked.
Not this time, Silra vowed silently as she reached for Hera's discarded blueprints. She wouldn't let Jeane win, wouldn't let her own skills be perverted into something ugly. She'd find a solution—had to find one—that kept them all safe and sane, even if it killed her. Which, given the building's increasing demands, might not have been far from literal truth.
The clock was ticking, each rumble from the structure a more insistent demand for... something. Anything. And Silra knew she didn't have much time left to come up with a solution that wouldn't make her feel like she'd sold her soul—again—to the very entity that had lured them here in the first place.
The air in the room seemed to crackle with unspoken tension as the women faced off, each with their own motivations and fears laid bare. The stakes were rising with every passing moment, the building's demands growing more insistent, more... hungry.
