Hera had been working steadily at the workbench for what felt like hours now, the soft glow of her tablet illuminating her focused expression. Across from her, Silra hunched over her own interface with an intensity that was almost palpable, her fingers dancing across the screen as she adjusted some critical parameter in their makeshift stabilization system. The air between them crackled with tension—Silra's rigid refusal to compromise on principle clashing sharply with Hera's growing impatience.

"Come on, Silra," Hera ground out, her voice tight with barely restrained frustration. "We don't have time for theoretical purity here. The building's demands aren't getting any less... demanding." She gestured vaguely toward the center of the room where Jeane was currently engaged in a rather enthusiastic solo session with the sybian, seemingly oblivious to their technical debate.

Silra didn't look up from her screen, but her jaw set stubbornly. "I've told you before, Hera—I won't compromise the structural integrity of this entire complex just to satisfy whatever perverse appetite this building has developed." Her voice was cool and measured, but there was an undercurrent of something else—fear? Disgust? Or perhaps both.

Hera's hands clenched into fists on the tabletop. "Fine, be that way. But what happens when the entire damn thing comes crashing down around our ears because you wouldn't bend a few rules?" She stood abruptly, chair scraping against the floor. "I'm done with this. If you can't get your head out of your ass and actually help here, then maybe you should just—"

"Hey!" Abby's voice cut through Hera's tirade, sharp and unexpected. Both women turned to find her standing a few feet away, hands clasped nervously in front of her. "I know this is all... complicated," she said, her gaze flicking between them, "but maybe we're looking at this wrong? What if there's another way to satisfy the building's needs without compromising everything?"

Hera blinked, momentarily taken aback by the interruption. Silra straightened slightly in her chair, a flicker of interest crossing her face before she schooled her expression back into neutrality.

"What do you mean?" Hera asked, her tone still gruff but curiosity creeping in.

Abby took a deep breath, seeming to gather her courage. "Well, I've been thinking—what if the building isn't actually demanding sex? What if it's just... misinterpreting something else as sexual stimulation?"

Silra raised an eyebrow. "Misinterpreting what exactly?"

"I don't know," Abby admitted, her cheeks flushing slightly. "But remember how Jeane said the vibrations started when she sat on that chair? Maybe it's not about sex at all—maybe it's about pressure or weight distribution or something technical like that."

Hera crossed her arms, considering this. "That's... actually not a terrible idea." She glanced back at Silra. "What do you think? Could the building be mistaking mechanical stress for sexual pleasure?"

Silra was quiet for a moment, her eyes distant as she considered the implications. When she spoke again, there was a note of intrigue in her voice. "It's... theoretically possible. The neural networks governing this place are highly advanced but still... imperfect." She turned back to her screen, fingers moving across it with renewed purpose. "If we could isolate the specific parameters the building responds to and recreate them without actual sexual stimulation..."

Hera grinned, a spark of excitement in her eyes. "Now you're talking my language. Let's figure this out before Jeane wears out that sybian completely."

As the two women bent over the schematics once more, their voices rising and falling in technical discussion, Abby couldn't help but feel a small sense of accomplishment. Maybe she hadn't solved the problem entirely, but at least she'd managed to redirect their focus away from outright conflict.

In the corner of her eye, she saw Jeane pause her activities momentarily, glancing over at the workbench with an expression that was both curious and... almost disappointed? But before Abby could dwell on it, Hera called out for more lubricant, and the moment passed. The night was far from over, and the building's demands showed no signs of abating.
