Silra circled the crude schematic Jeane had scrawled across the reinforced steel plate, her teal eyes narrowing with professional skepticism that barely concealed the irritation simmering beneath. The elf woman's fingers traced the lines of proposed modifications—reinforcements, brackets, stress points—with the practiced touch of a rogue who'd spent years disassembling and reassembling everything from traps to entire security systems. Her silver-blonde hair caught the light as she leaned closer, the subtle undercut a stark contrast against her pale skin.
"The engineering is sound," Silra admitted grudgingly, straightening up. "But this whole setup stinks of succubus manipulation." She shot Jeane a pointed look, one eyebrow arched in silent challenge. "I'm not convinced this is what the building actually wants—it feels like you're interpreting 'together' to mean whatever gets you closest to Hera's panties."
Jeane's crimson eyes glittered with amusement, her smile wide and predatory. "Oh come now, Silra darling. Don't be such a prude. The building demands exertion, shared effort—what better way to bond than working together on something... stimulating?" She trailed one finger along the edge of the steel plate in a way that had nothing to do with engineering and everything to do with suggestion.
Silra's jaw tightened, but before she could respond, Halie spoke up from her position near the window. "Perhaps we're overthinking it," the nun suggested, her voice soft but carrying clearly in the tense silence of the penthouse. "The Lord works in mysterious ways—maybe this is His test, a chance to demonstrate our unity through creative problem-solving rather than... other means."
The elf woman turned to face Halie, genuine interest flickering across her features. "Go on," she prompted, leaning against the workbench.
Halie shifted nervously, her habit rustling softly. "Well, if we interpret 'together' as cooperation rather than specific... activities..." She glanced at Jeane, a faint blush coloring her cheeks. "...then perhaps we could approach this as a team project. I'm not an engineer by trade, but I can certainly hold things steady while you weld, or pass tools—"
"Or provide moral support," Jeane cut in with a wink that had Halie's blush deepening.
Silra ignored the succubus's interruption, focusing on Halie instead. "That's actually not a bad idea," she mused, already considering the practical implications. "If we frame it as collaborative work rather than... whatever Jeane has in mind..." She shot another pointed look at the redhead. "...then we might satisfy the building's requirements without compromising our professional boundaries."
Jeane opened her mouth to protest, but Silra held up a hand, cutting her off. "No. This is my solution, and I'm running with it. Halie, grab those clamps—we'll start by reinforcing this junction here." She moved to the workbench, pulling on thick gloves as she prepared the welder. The hiss of compressed gas filled the air as she tested the equipment, a familiar sound that grounded her in the practical world despite the increasingly surreal situation.
The penthouse suite seemed to hold its breath as the women began working, the clatter of tools and occasional spark of welding providing a counterpoint to Jeane's disappointed sighs. For now, at least, they'd found a way to cooperate without compromising themselves—or each other.
