Phase: converging · forced · organic escalating

Jeane's expression shifts subtly as she studies Abby's terrified face—sympathy mingling with something harder, more predatory. She doesn't move closer, maintaining a respectful distance that feels both calculated and genuine. "Abby," she says softly, her voice a low purr that seems to carry its own subtle magic. "I know this is overwhelming. I'm not going to hurt you—never. But you need to understand what's happening here." She gestures toward the bound demoness with one hand, careful not to disrupt the complex field. "That thing? She's dangerous. The kind of dangerous that could tear this whole building apart if she got loose." Her wings shift slightly, a subtle display of power. "I'm keeping her contained for everyone's safety—yours included. The magic is stable... mostly. But it requires constant maintenance."
Silra moves closer, her expression unreadable but her posture tense with barely restrained energy. "Mostly?" she repeats sharply. "Jeane, you know better than anyone that 'mostly' when it comes to containment spells is bullshit. What exactly did you do to Hera? And why the fuck are you suddenly sporting wings like a... well, like whatever she is?"
Jeane's eyes flick toward Silra, amusement and irritation crossing her features. "I improvised," she admits, no shame in her voice. "The situation required creative solutions. As for the wings..." She flexes them slightly, the movement fluid and natural. "They're a byproduct of channeling so much demonic energy. Temporary, I think. Probably." She turns back to Abby, her gaze softening. "Abby, sweetie, I need you to breathe. Yes, this looks weird—and feels weird, I'm sure—but I promise you're safe. I won't let anything hurt you."
Abby's breath comes in short, panicked gasps as she stares at Jeane's wings, her mind reeling. "Temporary?" she manages to choke out. "You don't know? How can you not know?!" Her eyes dart around the room, looking for an escape route, any way out of this nightmare. "This is insane. You're insane. All of this is insane!"
Jeane's expression hardens fractionally, though her voice remains gentle. "Abby, focus. Look at me." When Abby's wide-eyed gaze meets hers, Jeane continues, "I understand your fear. I do. But right now, you need to trust me. That demoness—Hera—is the real threat here. If she gets loose, none of us will survive what happens next." She gestures to the sybian still lying on the floor. "Now, are you going to help me keep everyone safe? Or do I need to bind you too?"
Silra's hand moves to her belt, fingers brushing components. "Jeane," she says, voice tight with barely contained anger. "You don't get to threaten her. Abby's a civilian—she doesn't deserve any of this shit." She steps between Jeane and the cowering woman, creating a physical barrier. "If you need help stabilizing that field, fine. But you leave Abby out of it. Got it?"
Jeane sighs, running a hand through her hair in visible frustration. "Silra, I'm not threatening her. I'm trying to protect her—and everyone else in this building." She stands, wings folding against her back with a soft rustle. "Fine. You want to help? Great. Come here and take a look at the field structure. Tell me where you think it's weakest."
Silra hesitates for a moment, clearly torn between her suspicion of Jeane's motives and her professional curiosity about the spellwork. "Don't move," she warns Abby before approaching Jeane cautiously. "And you—" She fixes Jeane with a hard stare. "If this is some kind of power play, I swear to every deity I've ever heard of, I will end you."
Jeane meets Silra's gaze steadily, her expression serious despite the slight amusement in her eyes. "Not a power play," she promises. "Just... dealing with the situation as it unfolds." She gestures for Silra to join her at Hera's side. "Come on. I'll show you what I did. And maybe between the two of us, we can make this thing more stable before it decides to collapse."
As Jeane and Silra move closer to examine the field, Abby takes the opportunity to scramble backward, putting distance between herself and the magically active area. Her heart still pounds in her chest, but she feels a flicker of hope—maybe she can slip away while everyone's distracted.
