Hera grits her teeth against the lingering burn of Jeane’s wings across her skin, a fresh wound atop the day’s accumulated frustrations. She glares at Silra, frustration and determination burning in her amber eyes. “Enough?” Hera scoffs, her voice laced with sarcasm. “Abby is trapped in there with a succubus! We can’t just stand here and do nothing.” She takes a step forward, ignoring the warning buzz from Jeane’s wings. “I don’t care about the risks. I have to get to Abby, and if that means going through Jeane, then so be it.”

Hera’s gaze darts between Silra and the closed bathroom door, her fingers curling into fists at her sides. The civilized veneer is slipping, revealing the desperate resolve beneath. She knows Silra is right about the dangers, but the thought of Abby alone with that thing—whatever it is—twists something sharp in her gut.
