Jeane’s smile didn’t falter, a patient expression that belied the rapid calculations occurring behind her crimson eyes. She’d dealt with countless misconceptions about her kind before, but the accusation from this particular elf—this protector of the woman she needed for her contract—demanded a more delicate touch than usual. “You mistake my kind for opportunistic predators, little elf,” Jeane purred, her voice dripping with amused condescension. “We don’t prey on the unwilling or unsuspecting—at least not this evening.”

Her eyes flickered to Abby huddled against the wall, then back to Silra. The rogue’s protective stance was admirable, if inconvenient. Jeane needed that girl compliant and eager, not terrified by an overprotective friend with a blade. “Your friend is perfectly safe,” she continued, her tone softening further. “I merely offer… expanded possibilities.” Silra’s hand tightened around her dagger hilt, the metal catching a glint from the room’s ambient lighting. Jeane’s smile widened fractionally—she’d seen that tell before. The elf was weighing violence against uncertainty, and Jeane needed to tip that scale before the wrong choice was made.

“You seem tense,” Jeane remarked, taking a small step forward. Her wings shifted subtly behind her, the leathery appendages rustling softly—a non-threatening sound designed to soothe rather than intimidate. “Perhaps you’d like to join us? I promise the experience is… enlightening.” She let the offer hang in the air, knowing full well that Silra’s curiosity would likely win out over her suspicion—eventually. For now, she needed to focus on the real problem: the terrified girl cowering by the wall.

Jeane turned her attention fully onto Abby, her expression softening into something almost maternal. “As for you, little one,” she said, her voice dropping to what she hoped was a reassuring tone, “you’re terrified right now, and I get that. But there’s no need to be.” She took another step forward, closing the distance between them slowly, deliberately. “I’m not here to cause trouble—quite the opposite, in fact. I’m here to give you pleasure beyond your wildest dreams.”

The succubus’ words were a promise, a temptation wrapped in silk and delivered with a smile that could melt steel. But beneath the surface charm lay a predator’s patience—a willingness to wait out the fear until it bled away into curiosity, then desire. She’d had centuries to perfect this approach, after all.
