At Penthouse suite in a New York high rise, the pressure shifts from waiting to immediate risk. The ward answers the party's presence with a fresh pulse through the stone and no one can mistake it for safety. Someone has to answer that change now.

Jeane

Jeane · Succubus

The stone pulsed again, a sensation that rippled through my body like a caress and a warning. I turned to Silra, her defiant stance mirroring the tension in my own bones. "Silra," I said, my voice low and controlled, "that wasn't a tremor." The pulse had a rhythm, a signature. Whatever slept below us was stirring, responding to our presence—or perhaps our intentions. The penthouse suddenly felt less like a playground and more like an arena with invisible stakes. I moved towards the center of the room, my wings folding against my back instinctively. "Halie," I called out, "keep searching that chest. If there's anything in there that might protect us—or worse, curse us—we need to know." My eyes flickered to Hera and Abby, their innocence a stark contrast to what I sensed. "Stay close together. Trust your instincts more than your eyes right now."

The next pulse was stronger, and this time I caught the faintest echo of a voice on the wind—a seductive whisper promising power for a price. My lips curled into a smile, but it held no warmth. This was what I lived for: a challenge wrapped in sin. "Ladies," I purred, drawing their attention to me, "it seems our host is finally ready to greet us properly." My hand moved to the small of my back, fingers brushing against the hilt of a dagger concealed beneath my dress. It wasn't just for show—I'd learned long ago that even in pleasure's embrace, danger lurked. "I suggest we proceed with… heightened caution," I said, choosing my words carefully. "But let us not forget why we're here." I met each of their eyes in turn, letting them see the hunger beneath the concern. "Pleasure and power often walk hand-in-hand with peril. Are you still willing to walk this path with me?"

The stone pulsed again, and I felt it deep within my core—a perverse synchronization that made my breath hitch. My body was responding to whatever lay below, even as my mind calculated the risks. This could be a trap or an opportunity—I'd have to seduce it to find out which. "We should prepare," I announced, moving towards the chest Halie had been examining. "Whatever happens next, we face it together."

Silra

Silra · Rogue

The pulse through the stone is unmistakable now—a fresh signature, alive and searching. This isn't residual magic from Jeane's show; this is someone actively responding to our presence. I move away from the doorframe I was using as cover, my eyes tracking the perimeter of the room. "Jeane," I say, voice sharp but low enough not to echo, "that wasn't you just now?" She looks up from her position near Hera, confusion flickering across her features before it settles into something more alert. Halie has already begun gathering items from the chest—a wise precaution, though perhaps a bit too visible. I don't want our resident cleric becoming a target if this turns hostile. And Hera... sweet Hera, offering to help Halie without understanding what she's walking into. That civilian enthusiasm needs to be redirected before someone gets hurt. I approach Halie from the side, keeping my movements fluid and non-threatening. "If we're dealing with an unknown ward," I tell her quietly, "you being the center of attention might draw the wrong kind." She nods once—a quick acknowledgement without breaking her focus on the task at hand. Abby's still near the bedroom door, likely calculating angles of escape or entry points for whatever's coming. Useful instincts; I might have to work with her on subtlety later, but right now utility trumps finesse. The ward's pulse comes again, stronger this time. Whatever it is, it knows we're here and it's not going away. "I'm going to check the walls," I announce to the room at large—though really, I mean Jeane specifically. "See if there are any weak points or hidden triggers." Before anyone can object or volunteer, I'm already moving toward the closest wall, fingers trailing over the stonework with practiced precision. The others will either follow my lead or make their own choices. Either way, we need to understand what this ward is before it decides for us what happens next.

Halie

Halie · Cleric

I feel it too—that pulse wasn't natural magic. Something ancient answers our intrusion. We should move deliberately, stay close, and let no one stray into corridors alone. Hera, your offer to help is kind, but I need you near me for now—this place feels... hungry in ways my faith can taste.

Hera

Hera · Civilian

I move closer to Halie, offering my help and placing a comforting hand on her arm. "What do you need?" I ask softly, trying to be both supportive and useful. My eyes dart around the room, taking in the charged atmosphere as well as any potential threats. Although nervous, I trust Halie's judgment over the others' impulsiveness. She seems more level-headed, focused on safety rather than immediate gratification. I want to stay close to her, both for my own reassurance and to make sure she has the support she needs. At the same time, I can't deny the allure of exploring this space further. The promise of pleasure mingles with the danger, creating a heady cocktail that sets my pulse racing. But I know better than to act on those urges without proper caution. My attention is split between Halie's actions and the room itself. I'm acutely aware of every movement, every shift in energy. Part of me yearns to give in to temptation, but another part - the part that trusts Halie - insists on staying focused on our safety first.

Abby

Abby · Civilian

I watch Hera approach Halie, her gentle touch on the cleric's arm a stark contrast to the tense atmosphere in the room. The air here feels thick with unspoken things—both danger and desire. I can feel my own heart beating faster just being this close to it all. "My lady Halie," I whisper, trying to catch her attention without drawing too much notice from Jeane or Silra. "Is everything alright? What are you gathering?"
My eyes dart towards the bedroom door where Silra had been standing guard. The idea of being left alone out here, even for a moment, sends a chill down my spine.
