Round 170

Phase: converging · forced · organic escalating

The corridor's groans intensify with each passing second, a death rattle growing louder. The wardstone pulses again—harder, faster—and Jeane grits her teeth against the feedback. She's channeling raw power through a fucking dildo and it's barely holding back the corruption seeping through the doorframe like liquid shadow.
"Stop pushing the door," she snarls at Hera, voice strained with effort. "You're compromising the frame." Her wings flex involuntarily as another pulse hits her system—she's fighting to maintain control over both spellwork and her own demonic nature while standing ankle-deep in spilled lube on a tilting floor.
Silra's already moving, hands tracing the walls and ceiling with mechanical precision despite the darkness. "Structural integrity is shot," she reports grimly. "The whole hallway could come down any second." Her teal eyes reflect the magical discharge arcing between Jeane's thighs—she looks both fascinated and terrified by what she's witnessing.
Halie staggers back from the door, dropping her makeshift barricade with burned hands that won't grip properly. "This isn't working," she gasps, pulling out a small silver cross that seems utterly inadequate against the ambient corruption. "We need a real solution or we're all dying here."
The wardstone pulses again—three times in quick succession—and the entire corridor shudders around them like a dying beast. Dust rains down from the ceiling as Jeane fights to maintain the barrier, her body trembling with exertion and something else... something darker that surfaces in her crimson eyes for brief moments before she forces it back down.
"Twenty seconds," she hisses through clenched teeth. "Maybe thirty if we're lucky. That's how long I can hold this." Her wings spread wide as another pulse hits—defiance or desperation, it's hard to tell which is driving her now. The dildo in her hand pulses with dark light that casts flickering shadows across the panic-stricken faces of her companions.
Silra freezes mid-search, teal eyes locked on Jeane's straining form. "You're channeling too much through that thing," she says, voice tight with concern. "Your eyes are glowing—you need to stop before you lose control completely." But even as she speaks, another wardstone pulse hits and the entire hallway groans like a dying animal.
Halie stumbles backward, cross clutched tightly in both hands. "We can't stay here," she chokes out, glancing between Jeane's strained form and the ominously creaking doorframe. "The whole building is coming down."
Jeane's response is a guttural snarl as she fights yet another pulse. "I know that! But going through that door means touching the wardstone directly—and I can't control what happens if I do." Her wings beat once in agitation, sending a gust of air through the corridor that ripples across spilled lube and water puddles.
Silra's already moving again, hands flat against the opposite wall. "There has to be another way out," she mutters, more to herself than anyone else. But the concrete groans beneath her palms—structural integrity failing by the second.
Hera whimpers something incoherent from where she's pressed against the far wall, eyes wide with terror. Jeane's glare slices through the darkness between them. "Shut up," she snarls. "Your panic is feeding the corruption—I can feel it bleeding through the barrier."
The wardstone pulses again—five times in rapid succession—and the entire corridor buckles. Dust and concrete chips rain down as something structural fails upstairs. Halie screams, stumbling forward as the floor tilts beneath her.
"Everyone against the opposite wall!" Jeane shouts over the groaning building. "Now!"
They all comply instinctively—even Hera tears herself away from her safe corner and stumbles to join them. The wall provides some stability as the floor continues shifting beneath their feet.
Jeane grits her teeth, focusing every ounce of will into maintaining the barrier between them and the wardstone. The dildo pulses in rhythm with each stone pulse—her conduit barely containing the corruption trying to leak through.
"Fifteen seconds," she gasps, sweat beading on her forehead. "Maybe less."
Silra slams both hands against the wall beside her. "We need options! Now!"
Halie's voice comes out high-pitched with panic. "What options? The door's suicide either way—through or collapse!"
Jeane's laugh is sharp and bitter. "Welcome to my world, ladies. This is what happens when you break into a penthouse suite looking for easy money." Another wardstone pulse hits—she staggers but holds the barrier.
Silra's already calculating. "If we can't go forward or back... what about up?" She's pressing against the ceiling now, hands searching for weaknesses in the concrete. "There has to be a way into the roof structure—if we can break through..."
Jeane's head snaps up at that. "Up? You want us to breach the ceiling in a collapsing building?" But even as she says it, another wardstone pulse hits and something structural groans overhead.
Halie clutches her cross tighter. "Is that better than staying here? At least the roof might hold longer than this hallway."
Jeane's eyes narrow as she fights yet another pulse. "Unless we bring the entire floor down on our heads trying to break through." But even as she says it, there's a crack—Silra's hands have found something weak in the ceiling panels.
"Found it!" The elf woman grins fiercely despite the situation. "Weak spot here—if I can just...
The wardstone pulses again—six times fast—and the entire corridor shudders violently. Jeane screams with effort, holding the barrier as debris rains down around them. But Silra's hands are moving frantically against the ceiling—she's found a weak point and she's working it.
"Everyone back!" she yells over the groaning structure. "I'm going to breach!"
They all press themselves against the far wall as Silra slams both fists into the same spot repeatedly. Concrete cracks, then gives way in a shower of dust and fragments. Fresh air rushes in from above—cold and musty but blessedly free of wardstone corruption.
"Up!" Silra yells triumphantly. "There's space above—we can climb!"
Jeane doesn't hesitate—she releases the barrier spell with a gasp of relief, grabs Hera by the arm, and practically throws her toward the breach in the ceiling. The human woman scrambles upward frantically as more concrete groans ominously below.
"Go!" Jeane snarls at Silra. "I'll cover you both!"
The elf nods once and launches herself up through the hole—hands and feet finding purchase in the exposed roof structure above. She pulls Hera up behind her just as another wardstone pulse hits and the entire corridor floor shifts dramatically.
Jeane throws up a hasty barrier again, barely containing the backlash as she backs toward the breach. "Halie!" she shouts. "Move your ass!"
The cleric doesn't need telling twice—she's already stumbling forward with burned hands held out in front of her to protect herself from the tilting floor. She grabs the edge of the breach and starts climbing just as another structural failure occurs below.
Jeane feels the moment the hallway gives way completely—all that stands between them and a fall into the apartment below is her hastily constructed barrier and whatever structural integrity remains in this section of ceiling. She dives through the hole just as concrete begins collapsing behind her.
She scrambles up into the roof space, wings half-spread for balance as she pulls herself fully into the relative safety above. The last thing she sees before the hole seals itself with falling debris is the wardstone door frame—now exposed to the open air—and the dark energy bleeding out from behind it like liquid shadow.
"Everyone okay?" she gasps, collapsing against the nearest support beam and trying to catch her breath. Her body still hums with residual magic from maintaining that barrier for so long—she can feel her demonic nature straining at its bonds, fed by all that corruption but also weakened by the exertion of containing it.
Silra's already moving, teal eyes scanning their new surroundings in the dim emergency lighting. "We're in some kind of service corridor," she reports. "Looks like we're above the penthouse—there might be access to the main roof structure somewhere nearby." Her gaze falls on Jeane, still panting and glowing faintly with residual magic. "You good?"
Jeane wipes sweat from her forehead with the back of one hand. "I'm alive," she manages. "Which is more than I expected ten minutes ago." She glances around at the exposed pipes and insulation surrounding them—much safer than the hallway below, but far from ideal.
Hera's huddled against the wall, still shaking with fear but at least no longer feeding panic into the corruption field. Halie kneels beside her, checking for injuries despite her own burned hands.
"Anyone hurt worse than they were?" Jeane asks, already knowing the answer.
Silra shakes her head. "We're all here—alive and mobile." She pauses, then adds with dark humor, "Though I wouldn't recommend trying that escape route again."
Jeane manages a weak laugh, pushing herself upright despite trembling muscles. "Noted. Next time we break into a haunted penthouse suite, we bring better exit strategies." She looks around at the exposed roof structure—cables and pipes and insulation everywhere. "Now what? We can't stay here forever."
Silra's already calculating again. "If we follow these support beams, we should hit the main roof access eventually. From there..." she trails off, clearly running through structural possibilities in her head.
Halie speaks up, still kneeling beside Hera. "What about emergency exits? Fire escapes? Something that might get us down without going back through that hellhole of a hallway?"
Jeane nods approvingly. "Now that's thinking like a survivor." She moves toward them, careful to avoid brushing against anyone with her still-glowing skin. "Halie's got the right idea—we need a way down that doesn't involve more magic or more collapsing buildings."
Silra's already moving again, hands tracing the nearest wall. "I'll find us a route—stay close and don't touch anything that looks structural unless you want to fall through another floor." Her teal eyes scan the darkness ahead as she leads the way deeper into the roof space.
Jeane falls back to guard their rear, wings half-spread for balance as she follows the others. The residual magic is still coursing through her system—she can feel it feeding her demonic nature even as exhaustion pulls at her physical form. But they're alive. They've escaped the worst of it so far.
For now.
