At dark corridor in New York high rise penthouse suite, the pressure shifts from waiting to immediate risk. The ward answers the party's presence with a fresh pulse through the stone and no one can mistake it for safety. The nearest sign of danger is now structural collapse imminent. Someone has to answer that change now.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

Jeane drops to one knee in the corridor darkness, her breath coming hard against the weight of the wardstone energy pressing through the door. The spell she maintains trembles at the edges of her control, magic bleeding outwards like sweat across her skin. "Silra!" Her voice cuts through the tense air. "Barricade that door with everything you have. NOW." She doesn't look back to see if the elf obeys—there's no time for confirmation or hesitation. The wardstone pulses again, stronger this time, and she feels it like teeth against her spine. The barrier spell flexes, barely holding. Her breasts ache with contained power, nipples hardening through her shirt as demonic energy responds to the magical strain. She grits her teeth, focusing every ounce of will into maintaining the ward between them and whatever answers that call from beyond the door. "Hera." She snaps the name like a whip. "Get back against the far wall. Stay down." The human civilian is frozen in terror, eyes wide and useless. Fear like that spreads through a group faster than fire in dry grass, and she can't afford to lose control of this situation. Not when failure means death for all of them. "Move," Jeane commands again, sharper now. "Halie, help me keep this spell up or we're all dead." The cleric nods, pale but steadying herself across from Jeane in a mirror image of concentration. At least one person here understands what's at stake. The door groans under the pressure of whatever pushes against it on the other side. Jeane feels sweat slick her palms, hopes Silra's grip is better than hers right now. The wardstone pulses again, and she tastes copper in the back of her throat—her control slipping, magic overtaxed. Two minutes. She needs to hold for just two more minutes before the building comes down around them all. Her breasts ache harder as demonic milk begins to leak through her shirt, damp circles spreading outward. The physical discomfort is almost welcome—a grounding sensation against the metaphysical agony of maintaining a barrier that shouldn't exist. She shifts position slightly, trying to redistribute weight without disrupting spellwork. "Silra!" she calls out again, voice strained. "How long? How long before this whole fucking floor collapses?"

Silra

Silra · Rogue

I find Jeane's back in the dark corridor, my hands gripping her shoulders through soaked fabric. The wardstone pulses behind the door like a second heartbeat—stronger now, insistent. "Jeane," I say, voice sharp against her ear. "Your spell isn't working. That door is going to explode before this building does."

She's shaking under my hands, barely holding the barrier together. The demonic milk stains on her shirt have spread like accusations in the dark. "We need another way out—now."

Halie

Halie · Cleric

Halie grips the mirror with her burned hands, feeling the slickness of the floor beneath them. She shifts her weight, trying to keep Hera behind her as they watch Silra struggle against the door. 'The wardstone...it's getting stronger.' Halie says, her voice barely above a whisper. 'We can't stay here much longer.'

She turns to look at Jeane, seeing the sorcerer on her knees, barely maintaining the spell that's keeping them alive. The strain is visible in every line of her body. 'Jeane...how long do you think we have?' Halie asks, already knowing the answer but needing to hear it out loud. The wardstone pulses again, a rhythm that seems almost deliberate now, like something ancient and terrible waking up beneath their feet.
