The corridor breathes dust and decay with every pulse of the wardstone, each beat stronger than the last. The building groans like a dying beast beneath their feet, and even in the darkness, they can see the strain in the stonework—cracks spiderwebbing across the walls, concrete powdering away to nothing. Water from the broken shower stall mingles with spilled lubricant on the floor, creating an absurdly inappropriate hazard underfoot as they try to maintain distance from the wardstone's energy.

Silra presses herself against one wall, fingers tracing the seam where it meets the ceiling in a desperate search for hidden mechanisms or structural weaknesses. Her teal eyes reflect the faint ambient light like a cat's, scanning every inch of the space for an escape route that isn't there. The wardstone pulses again, and she feels it through her palms—an insistent throb that makes her stomach turn.

Halie braces herself against the door with everything she has left, her burned hands screaming protest but she ignores them. The wood creaks ominously under renewed pressure, splinters flying as the frame groans in agony. She positions the heavy mirror more securely, creating a second barrier layer while trying to shield Hera behind her. "Silra!" she calls again, voice tight with panic barely contained. "We need something NOW or this whole floor comes down on all of us!"

Jeane stands at the edge of her barrier spell, crimson eyes blazing with exhaustion and barely contained terror. The magic flickers around her fingertips like living flame, visible only as distortions in the air that shimmer when the wardstone pulses. She snarls something under her breath—probably a curse but it's lost in the building's groan—and focuses every ounce of will into maintaining the barrier's integrity. "Halie," she snaps, voice tight with strain, "put everything into that barrier! Seal the door with whatever you have—bodies if necessary—and do it now. Hera," her gaze flicks to where the civilian huddles behind Halie, "I don't care what you're holding onto back there, but stay away from the wardstone energy. It's trying to pull everyone inside."

The wardstone pulses again, and for a moment the entire corridor seems to shudder in response—stone groaning, water rippling across the floor, dust sifting down from above. They have maybe minutes before this entire section collapses entirely. Less if the wardstone gets its way first.
