As Halie shields herself and Jeane with the barricade, the building's groaning intensifies, and the wardstone energy surges through her hands. The mirror frame creaks under the strain, and Hera's voice rings out, "We need to move now!" Silra stumbles backward, her hand still grasping the door handle. Her eyes lock onto Halie and Hera, pleading for them to act. With a burst of adrenaline, Halie yanks Jeane toward the door, and they both stumble out into the dark corridor. The floor beneath their feet is slick with spilled lubricant, threatening to send them tumbling. Water from the broken shower stall pours in, creating a treacherous obstacle course. As they move, the wardstone energy crackles around them, casting an eerie glow on the walls. Halie's voice rings out, "Stay close, we need to find a way out!" The corridor stretches before them, with no clear path forward.

Halie

Halie · Cleric

Halie's hands slip on the wet mirror frame as she braces against the buckling door. The wardstone pulses in rhythm with her heartbeat, each throb sending sickly pleasure through her palms. She grits her teeth. 'The barricade won't hold much longer,' Halie shouts over the creaking building. 'Jeane, help me brace this side. Hera, stay back!' Her voice cracks with command and something else—protectiveness that feels dangerously close to desire despite everything. The elf is right: if they don't move now, the whole floor will come down on them. But moving means leaving the barrier between them and that...thing. Moving means facing whatever's in this dark corridor while the building collapses around their ears and the wardstone energy chases after them like a predator scenting blood.

Hera

Hera · Civilian

Hera: "Shit! Halie, I've got no grip on this wet mirror frame, we're losing our barricade!"

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

The wardstone pulses again, faster now—something ancient waking up through our desperation. The mirror frame Hera and I are holding buckles in the middle, water from the broken shower mixing with spilled lubricant on the floor making everything slippery as hell. "Hera, stop shouting!" I snap, feeling my patience fray like old rope. "If you panic everyone else will too." Another wardstone pulse makes the whole building groan, and something inside me answers it—my demonic nature flaring up unwanted but undeniable in this crisis. Silra's trying to help but her mechanical suggestions are half-baked at best. We need solid sorcery here not jury-rigged sex toys for structural engineering. The floor tilts under my feet as another section of the building above gives way, raining debris into the corridor we're about to enter blind. "Stay close," I tell Hera sharply over the creaking timbers and Halie's strained breathing across from us bracing the door. "I won't let that thing get you." The promise tastes bitter in my mouth—too much like a mother hen protecting her chick when I should be leading with iron control. The next wardstone pulse makes my teeth ache, and something warm trickles down my wrists where the door handle cut me earlier. Blood magic might work here but it could also call attention we don't need. Demonic nature or not, I won't risk bringing that thing's full power into our space by broadcasting mine. "Silra," I grind out through gritted teeth as she fumbles with some bondage rope idea, "focus on the door integrity—not fucking kink engineering right now." Another wardstone pulse and the mirror frame gives way an inch. We've maybe thirty seconds before this barricade fails completely. I need a clear plan or I'm going to lose it—either at Silra for her useless ideas or at Hera for her fear making me want to shield her like some kind of... protector instead of leading like the demonic authority I am supposed to be.
