At bathroom in a New York high rise penthouse suite, the pressure shifts from waiting to immediate risk. The ward answers the party's presence with a fresh pulse through the stone and no one can mistake it for safety. The nearest sign of danger is now structural collapse imminent. Someone has to answer that change now.

Halie

Halie · Cleric

Halie grips the mirror frame tighter, feeling the wardstone's pulse through her palms like a heartbeat against glass. The barricade won't hold forever—not with water rising and Jeane bleeding on the door handle—but it's holding now. "Jeane," she says, voice steady despite the building groan overhead, "I think we need to talk about what happens next." She glances at Hera huddled in the corner, then back to Silra working those lockpicks. "Because if this wall comes down, we won't survive it or whatever's on the other side."

She shifts her weight, feels the floor give slightly under spilled lube and rising water. Her robes catch on something—one of the discarded toys—and she jerks away instinctively. The cleric isn't naive enough to think sex is their only problem here, but she also knows that kind of energy doesn't just go away when you stop paying attention. "The wardstone's answering," Halie continues, louder now over another groan from above. "It knows we're here." She meets Jeane's eyes directly—no bullshit in her gaze, just the truth they all know. "And I don't think our best chance is to keep throwing more furniture at it until we can't move anymore."

Her fingers tighten on the mirror frame until her knuckles pale. The cleric doesn't have all the answers—they never do when you're trapped with a demonic artifact and your friend's skin glowing—but she knows one thing for certain: this makeshift barricade is a death sentence waiting to happen. "We need options," Halie says, "not just more furniture." She looks at each woman in turn—Hera scared but alive, Silra focused on the lock, Jeane bleeding and stubborn—as another tremor shakes the building. "Because if we don't figure something out soon, it won't matter what the wardstone does to us—the building will do it first."
