Round 74 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

At bathroom in a New York high rise penthouse suite, the pressure shifts from waiting to immediate risk. The ward answers the party's presence with a fresh pulse through the stone and no one can mistake it for safety. The nearest sign of danger is now structural collapse imminent. Someone has to answer that change now.
I watch Jeane frantically build her barricade of lube bottles, my heart hammering against my ribs as the building groans around us. The water from the broken shower stall sloshes over my bare feet, cold and threatening. Silra's voice cuts through the air, sharp and urgent.
"Anyone with better stacking skills than me, get over here."
My eyes dart to Hera, who is pressing herself against the wall near the door, her face pale with fear. I know I should help, but my limbs feel heavy, useless. The thought of moving closer to that door, where the wardstone's energy pulses like a malevolent heartbeat, terrifies me.
I see Halie and Silra working together to secure the barricade, their movements frantic and desperate. They stack the bottles higher, creating a precarious wall between us and the looming threat outside. The air is thick with the scent of cheap lube and the sound of snapping wood somewhere deep in the building's bones.
"Hera," I call out, my voice barely above a whisper. "Are you okay?"
She turns her head slightly, her eyes wide with unspoken horror. She doesn't answer, just shakes her head almost imperceptibly. I can feel her fear, a mirror of my own. We're trapped, helpless against the forces that Jeane has unleashed.
The wardstone's energy seems to intensify, a physical pressure pushing against my skin. It feels like a million tiny needles pricking my flesh. I wrap my arms around myself, trying to ward off the sensation. The sound of water pouring from the broken shower grows louder, more insistent.*
Jeane Cromwell surveys her handiwork with a critical eye—rows of lube bottles stacked in descending heights to create a makeshift barricade across the bathroom doorway, held in place by water pressure from the broken shower stall behind them. The building groans overhead like a dying beast, and every pulse from the wardstone downstairs drives spikes of nausea through her gut. "Hera," she snaps, voice sharp as a switchblade. "Away from the door. Now." She doesn't wait for compliance, grabbing the human woman by her collar and yanking her back toward the wet tiled floor where Silra is still strategically stacking bottles with mathematical precision. "You want to be the reason this whole fucking room collapses on us? Use your head."
Hera stumbles backward, wide-eyed and trembling—terrified of dying in a collapsed building but even more terrified of whatever that wardstone downstairs actually does when activated by their presence. Jeane feels an irritated flicker of something almost like pity, quickly smothered beneath the immediate need to maintain control. "Silra's got this angle covered," she continues, voice low and intense as she turns to address Hera directly while maintaining a protective stance between her and the doorframe. "What I need from you is calm. Stay where you are. Do not move." Her eyes flick down involuntarily, noting the way water sloshes around Hera's bare feet—more from the broken shower than flooding, thankfully, but still an unacceptable variable in a situation demanding precision. Her own body thrums with adrenaline and something else, some dark thrill beneath the fear that she recognizes as her demonic nature asserting itself in crisis. Her breasts feel heavy, nipples hardening despite the warmth of the room—not arousal exactly, but certainly something related to increased blood flow and heightened physiological awareness. She shifts her weight subtly, trying to ease the pressure without drawing attention. "Abby," she calls out over Hera's shoulder toward where she last saw the other human woman standing near the bathroom entrance. "You with us? I need you to keep Hera occupied and calm—together they're just going to panic each other into stupidity." She doesn't wait for confirmation, turning back to Silra instead. "Talk to me about that barricade height. How much more do we need?"
I brace my shoulder against the door, pushing with all my weight to keep it shut against the mounting pressure from the wardstone's energy. The water from the broken shower stall sloshes around my bare feet, soaking through my shoes. I call out to Abby, "Abby, help me hold this! We need to find something heavy to block this door!"
My heart pounds in my chest as the building groans overhead like a dying beast. Each pulse of the wardstone's energy sends shivers down my spine, and I can't shake the feeling that something terrible is about to happen. But I refuse to give in to panic. I have to stay focused if we're going to survive this. I glance over at Jeane and Silra, watching as they frantically stack bottles of lube into a makeshift barricade. It's a desperate measure, but it might be our only hope of keeping the door shut long enough for Halie to come up with a better plan. I just pray that whatever magic she's trying to work is enough to save us all. As I push against the door, I feel a sudden surge of energy from the wardstone, like a shockwave rippling through the very walls of the bathroom. The door groans in its frame, and for a moment I think it's going to give way entirely. But with Abby's help, we manage to hold it shut, even as the pressure mounts. I don't know how much longer we can last like this, but I refuse to let fear win out over determination. We've made it this far, and I'll be damned if I'm going to let some cursed stone claim my life now.
