At Penthouse suite in a New York high rise, the pressure shifts from waiting to immediate risk. The ward answers the party's presence with a fresh pulse through the stone and no one can mistake it for safety. The nearest sign of danger is now structural instability from wardstone interaction. Someone has to answer that change now.

Abby

Abby · Civilian

I watch Jeane's fingers trace the line of Hera's jaw, my heart hammering against my ribs. The air in the room feels thick with unspoken tension and something far more dangerous. I can feel the building itself groaning around us, a low, ominous sound that seems to pulse in time with the wardstone's aura.
My eyes dart between Jeane and Hera, then over to Halie and Silra. We're all trapped here together, our fates tied to this arcane artifact and its demands. I see the conflict etched on Halie's face as she tries to intervene, her voice a desperate plea for an alternative. But there is no other way out of this. The wardstone has spoken, and it wants what it wants.
Silra's movements around the stone are frantic, almost manic. She's trying to find a weakness, a loophole, but I know that's futile. This isn't a puzzle to be solved; it’s a primal force imposing its will upon us. A shiver runs down my spine as I imagine what kind of spectacle the wardstone has in mind.
My gaze lands on Hera again. She looks so small standing before Jeane, yet there's an undeniable strength in her posture. She isn't cowering; she’s meeting that demonic gaze head-on. A flicker of admiration sparks within me. That kind of courage... it's terrifying and beautiful all at once.
I take a shaky step closer, my voice so low it’s almost inaudible. "Jeane?" I ask, my eyes wide with fear and a strange, burgeoning excitement. "What do we do now?"
The question hangs in the air, heavy with unspoken implications. The entire world seems to hold its breath as we wait for an answer, the wardstone’s pressure building to an almost unbearable crescendo.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I look at Hera's face, tracing her jawline with my fingers until she shivers. The wardstone pulses again, harder this time—we're running out of time to bullshit around. I pull back just enough so we can talk straight. "Hera," I say, voice low and serious despite the arousal simmering under my skin, "what exactly are you offering here? Because that stone isn't asking for half-measures or vague promises. It wants something specific, and if we don't give it what it needs, this entire fucking building comes down around our ears." I glance at Silra circling the wardstone like a predator sizing up its prey—her fingers twitching with that device in her hand—and feel my jaw clench. "And before we start any goddamn ritual or whatever this is supposed to be, I need to know what it means for you. Long-term consequences. Not just 'oh wow great sex.' Real shit."

The demon blood pulses hot beneath my skin, wanting out, wanting action and submission and power—but I shove it down hard enough that my hands tremble a little as they fall back to my sides. Halie's standing between us now, and I respect the hell out of her for it even if she is being annoyingly noble at a critical moment. "Halie," I say, nodding toward her without taking my eyes off Hera, "if you've got an actual plan here that doesn't involve my dick or anyone's submission to some ancient asshole stone, let's hear it. Because right now? Time's up."

Halie

Halie · Cleric

I step between Jeane and Hera, positioning myself as a barrier. I look at both of them and say in a calm but firm voice, "We need another solution. Something that doesn't involve—" I glance at the wardstone, then back to Jeane, "—anything like what it's asking for." My chastity is a line I cannot cross, and I won't let anyone else sacrifice themselves like that either. I turn to Hera, my expression softening slightly. "You don't have to do this. None of us do."

The building groans around us, a sound that sends a fresh wave of fear through me. We're running out of time.
