Round 44 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Halie's divine light continues to stabilize the structure, the creaking wooden beams slow their descent, and the groaning walls fall into a slightly more bearable silence. Jeane's arousal spikes as she watches Halie's efforts, but her gaze remains fixed on Hera. "Make a genuine sacrifice for group's safety," Halie repeats, her voice laced with desperation. Hera's face flushes with desire, and she looks at Silra, then back at Halie. "I... I'll do it," she stammers, her voice barely audible. Suddenly, the wardstone pulses with an eerie light, and the air is filled with a sweet, intoxicating scent. The building's pressure responses grow stronger, and the structural instability begins to recede. However, the wardstone's demand for commitment remains unfulfilled, and the group is left with a new question: what exactly will Hera sacrifice?
I watch Hera stammer her offer, my heart pounding against my ribs like a trapped bird. The air in the room feels thick, charged with an energy far more dangerous than any magic Jeane could conjure.
My eyes dart around the opulent space, taking in the cracking plaster and the way the chandelier sways ominously overhead. Every groan of the building sounds like a death knell now, and I can feel the fear coiling in my stomach, cold and heavy.
The wardstone pulses with an eerie glow, its demands seeming to echo in the sudden silence left by Hera's words. It wants something real, something raw and unguarded. And Hera has just volunteered to give it whatever that is.
I take a shaky breath, my gaze landing on Jeane. She looks different now, her expression one of intense focus mixed with a predatory hunger. Her eyes are fixed on Hera, but I can feel the weight of them as they flicker over me for just a moment, making my skin prickle.
"I'll do it," Hera repeats, her voice stronger this time. She squares her shoulders, facing Jeane directly. "I'll finish what we started."
The words hang in the air between them, thick with unspoken meaning. I swallow hard, my throat suddenly dry.
Silra shifts uncomfortably nearby, her own expression a mixture of skepticism and reluctant arousal. She clearly thinks this is a mistake, but the look on Jeane's face tells me there’s no going back now.
My mind races, trying to process what I've just heard. What exactly did Hera mean by "finish"? And why does the thought send such a jolt of excitement through me, even as fear claws at my insides?
The wardstone flares again, brighter than ever before. It seems to be waiting, watching. Anticipating.
I feel Hera's fear through the bond before I hear her voice. The building groans again—louder this time—and I taste dust in the back of my throat. Halie’s trying to hold us together with light and prayer, but I can see the strain in her jaw even from across the room. ‘Finish what?’ My voice comes out harsher than intended. We don’t have time for vague promises or half-measures. The wardstone pulses again—faster now—and something deep inside me responds with a desperate thrum that has nothing to do with magic and everything to do with need. I hate it. ‘Whatever you started,’ Hera says, her voice trembling but steady. She meets my eyes despite the fear there. ‘That’s what they want.’ She gestures at the pulsing wardstone, then looks down at Silra where she lies on the floor between us. ‘I’ll do whatever it takes to keep this place from collapsing.’
My body aches with anticipation and dread in equal measure. I can feel Hera’s arousal through our bond—sharp and desperate—and it feeds my own until I’m dizzy with it. But what exactly is she agreeing to? And more importantly, what does the wardstone want us to do? I look at Silra first—the source of this mess—and find her watching me with that infuriatingly smug expression despite being trussed up like a holiday offering. She knows something we don’t; I can see it in the way she’s cataloging every reaction, every flicker of fear or desire across our faces. Then my gaze shifts to Halie, still focused on maintaining the structure with divine will alone. Her forehead is beaded with sweat, strain showing through her concentration. She catches me looking and shakes her head almost imperceptibly—a silent warning or maybe just shared concern about where this is heading. But Hera’s waiting for an answer, and we’re running out of time. The wardstone pulses again—even faster now—and I feel the structure around us shift dangerously. We need to do something. And fast.
I channel divine light into the structure again—buying us another minute, maybe two—but this feels wrong on a fundamental level. The wardstone wants more than lust; it demands genuine commitment. Hera stutters 'I'll do it,' but what exactly does that mean? Finish what you started with Jeane? In here? Now? While the building groans like a dying thing around us? Silra's looking too smug for my liking. What is she planning? Jeane, focus! We need genuine commitment, not just more... whatever this is we're doing. Are you willing to make a real sacrifice? The wardstone pulses again—stronger this time—and the foundation shifts underfoot. We're running out of time.
