Jeane's voice cuts through the groaning building, sharp despite her effort to keep it smooth. "Silra." She steps back from the wardstone, watching Silra's face more closely than she watches the stone itself. The way light plays across Silra's cheekbones makes Jeane want to lean in, trace that line with her tongue—but no. Not yet. "We need to understand what this thing wants," Jeane says, gesturing at the wardstone with a dismissive flick of her wrist as if it were an annoying student rather than whatever the fuck it is pulsing there like a damn heartbeat. "Why does it feel... connected to us?" Her eyes slide sideways for just a fraction of a second toward Hera and Abby standing near the window, their faces pale in the dim light from outside. Those two are complications she doesn't need right now. Jeane's mind races through possibilities—some of them involving Silra's hands elsewhere entirely—but she pushes those aside. Practical first, lust later. Always. "Talk to me," Jeane continues, her tone shifting into something softer but no less commanding. "What does it tell you? And more importantly..." She lets the question hang for a beat as she meets Silra's eyes directly—no flinching, no looking away from whatever darkness might be reflected there. "How do we satisfy its... appetite without turning this into a demolition derby?"
The building groans again, louder this time, and Jeane feels it in her teeth—a vibration that sets her nerves on edge even as something hot coils low in her belly at the thought of what satisfying such an entity might entail with Silra so close.
I step closer to Silra, my brow furrowed in concern. "Silra, what exactly is happening here? That thing - it's breathing?" My gaze darts to the wardstone, pulse ominously. "And why is the building shaking like this?"
I inch toward her, speaking softly. "Look, I know you're good at figuring out puzzles like these. But we need to figure this out before the whole place comes down on our heads." I glance around at the groaning structure, then back to Silra's face. "So... what does it tell you?"
I pull my hand back from the wardstone quickly, wiping it on my pants. The stone's pulse is still visible, a sickening green light that throbs in time with the building's groans. "It doesn't want us to stop," I say to Jeane, voice sharp and low. "It wants...something else. Something more direct." The structure shudders again, plaster cracking somewhere overhead. We're running out of time for finesse.
