"Fuck," she hissed through clenched teeth, her amber eyes fixed on the glowing rectangle as if it might spring to life at any moment.
The walls around them had stopped their coordinated breathing entirely—every surface now a writhing mass of living stone that pulsed in time with an insistent low hum vibrating through the very air. The sound felt less like noise and more like something trying to communicate directly into her bones. "Abby," she called out, her voice tight with barely contained panic, "you see this shit too, right? Walls aren't just breathing anymore—they're fucking alive."
She took a careful step backward, maintaining the mandated twelve-meter radius between herself and Silra. Every movement felt painfully slow as she fought against her own instincts screaming at her to run. "And that humming—it's getting louder," she continued, her free hand clenching into a fist at her side. "Has anyone else noticed it sounds like... like a fucking heartbeat counting down seconds or something?"
Her eyes darted around the tunnel, taking in every shifting stone surface and pulsing symbol. The air itself felt thick with energy, making her skin crawl—every inch of exposed flesh screaming at her to get away. "This is beyond 'ward failure points' now," she muttered, more to herself than anyone else. "These walls are learning. Adapting. And I don't think we want to see what happens next."
She glanced back down at the pressure plate, then up at Silra's frozen form across the gap. "Hey," she called out, her voice barely carrying over the growing hum, "you still with us in there? Or has the stone already started talking?"
