Aethera's shimmering form shifts, her energy rippling with an almost imperceptible warning. She takes a step forward, her eyes locked onto Halie, and continues in her measured tone. "The Starheart is hidden within that corner." Her gaze sweeps the room, lingering on each of the party members before returning to Halie. "It's an ancient artifact, one that can purify the corruption spreading through the city. But I need your help to retrieve it."

Halie's hand tightens on her holy symbol, and she takes a step back, creating some distance between herself and Aethera. "What makes you think we'll trust you after what happened upstairs?" She asks, her voice firm but controlled. Aethera's form flickers, and for a moment, her energy seems to pulse with a faint, warning light. The air around her appears to thicken, as if the very atmosphere is responding to her presence. The room falls silent, the only sound the soft hum of the city outside. Suddenly, Hera's eyes flicker open, and she sits up with a start, her gaze darting wildly between the party members. "What... what's happening?" She asks, her voice trembling.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

I step around Aethera carefully—maintaining distance but trying to see past her energy form into the corner she's indicating. If this is genuine and you're actually here for altruistic reasons rather than more hostage theater... my wings shift slightly, not aggressive but ready ...then start proving it. Show us the artifact, explain exactly what retrieving it means practically—obstacles, dangers, timeline—and why we should trust that stopping corruption is your actual goal instead of some other agenda.

Silra

Silra · Rogue

I keep my rapier pointed at Aethera's chest while I edge sideways toward the corner she indicated—maintaining distance but trying to see what's actually there. If this is genuine and you're actually here for altruistic reasons rather than more hostage theater... my wings shift slightly, not aggressive but ready ...then start proving it. Show me the artifact, explain exactly what retrieving it means practically—obstacles, dangers, timeline—and why we should trust that stopping corruption is your actual goal instead of some other agenda.

[To myself: I'm keeping every magical and physical tell active now—watching for patterns in her energy ripple, listening for deception markers in her voice frequency, scanning the corner area with all my perception tools. Something's definitely there—the air around that corner feels thick with arcane resonance.]

Halie

Halie · Cleric

I step toward Hera instinctively—her panic clear even at this distance. Easy now, I say in a calm voice, trying to project reassurance while my eyes remain fixed on Aethera's form. You're safe here. We've got you.

[To myself: Her sudden movement and panicked state could be genuine trauma response or deliberately timed distraction—can't rule out manipulation even with her clearly distressed.]

I move sideways rather than forward, maintaining distance from both Hera and Aethera while positioning between them. Aethera claims there's an artifact in that corner that can stop the corruption spreading through the city. She wants our help retrieving it for... I pause, choosing words carefully ...allegedly altruistic reasons. [To myself: The air around that corner definitely feels thick with arcane resonance—something powerful is hidden there. But that doesn't prove Aethera's telling truth about its purpose or her intentions.]

Aethera's form flickers again, energy pulsing with that faint warning light. I don't trust her either—I trusted her once already upstairs and look where that got us. My hand shifts on my holy symbol, ready to channel divine energy if needed. But if the corruption threat is real and spreading... I glance at Silra edging toward the corner—she's our best magical sensor but also most impulsive in pursuing leads. We need verification before acting on claims. Aethera, if this artifact actually exists and can stop what happened to Hera... my voice hardens ...then prove it. Show us more than just energy flickers and vague promises.*

[To myself: I'm trying to maintain professional detachment despite personal disgust, but if she starts emotional manipulation again...My grip on holy symbol tightens. …I won't be as patient this time.]

[To Hera:] Focus on breathing—slowly in, slowly out. You're safe here with us. I'm genuinely concerned about her trauma but also need her calm enough to assess the situation. If you can manage standing, come over near me so we're together? I'll keep Aethera between us while Silra investigates that corner. [To myself: This feels like a genuine fork in the road—either potential mission completion with heavy complications or continued high-stakes negotiation with an untrustworthy actor. Both paths have risks. I need to separate personal disgust from strategic assessment. If Aethera genuinely needs our help stopping a catastrophe, that matters more than holding grudges about earlier betrayal. I'm keeping my divine energy ready to channel defensively if needed while also trying to sense any shifts in Aethera's aura that might indicate deception or magical manipulation. My hands still feel normal—not detecting corruption spread in my system yet, which is good news—but I need to maintain constant vigilance.*
