Jeane's crimson eyes remain fixed on the ominous statue as they navigate deeper into the flooded corridor. The pressure is increasing—this barrier won't hold much longer. Her wings twitch with barely contained tension, each beat sending tiny droplets of water scattering from their leathery surface. I don't know what it wants, but ancient guardians usually want one thing: offerings or sacrifices. And we're not exactly prepared to provide either.

As the water rises to their waists, Abby clings to Jeane's arm for support, her wide brown eyes reflecting both terror and desperate hope. "What do we do?" Her voice trembles, barely audible over the groaning of ancient stone and rushing water. "I can't swim like you can."

Jeane's lips curl into a grim smile, her free hand still tracing arcane patterns in the air as she maintains what little magical defense remains. Then hold your breath. Because if this barrier fails completely, we're going to have to dive deep—and fast. She gestures ahead with her chin, toward a dark archway barely visible through the swirling water. See that opening? I think it's our exit... or at least another chamber. Either way, we need to get there before this entire tomb gives way completely.

As if in response to Jeane's words, a fresh groan echoes through the corridor, louder than before. A section of the ceiling crumbles away into the water with a massive splash, sending a new wave of pressure against the already straining barrier. Move! Jeane snarls, her wings beating hard enough to propel them both forward through the rising water. Keep that statue between us and whatever's in the depths!

The barrier shudders violently as they lunge forward, its magical energy flickering like a candle flame in a gale. The water swirls around them, currents tugging insistently at their legs as if trying to drag them downward. Jeane clenches her jaw, pouring every ounce of remaining power into the spell—but it's like trying to hold back the ocean with a sieve.

They burst through the archway just as the barrier collapses entirely, a massive wall of water rushing past them and slamming into the far wall with enough force to shake the entire chamber. Jeane staggers forward, gasping for breath, her wings drooping from exhaustion. Abby clings to her tightly, both women drenched and panting in the sudden silence that follows the roar of collapsing water.

Before them lies a vast underwater cavern, its walls lined with more of those ominous symbols. And at its center, barely visible through the swirling currents, something massive moves—something ancient and powerful beyond measure. Well, Jeane mutters darkly, this is definitely not what I expected when I agreed to help Aethera find her stupid book.

She turns to Abby, her expression unreadable in the gloomy light. We're going to have to dive deep. Stay close to me—if whatever's down there decides we're a threat, I won't be able to protect us both with magic alone. Her hand finds Abby's, squeezing it tightly. Ready?

Abby nods, her eyes wide but determined. As ready as I'll ever be. Just... don't let go of me, okay?
