The ancient stone archway chamber had become a killing ground, the air thick with the stink of machine oil and something else—something wrong. The flesh-walls pulsed rhythmically, their grotesque movements barely visible in the dim blue light seeping from deeper within the facility. Silra moved like lightning, her slender form darting behind the archway's supporting pillar just as the mechanical hostile lumbered into view.

Its glowing blue eyes fixed on her position immediately, and it charged forward with surprising speed for something so massive. The fusion experiments' energy signatures pulsed in sync with its movements—an unholy trio of threats converging on their location. Silra drew her dagger, the steel catching what little light existed as she prepared to intercept the mechanical monstrosity.

But then, at the last second, the hostile veered sharply to its left, narrowly avoiding a collision with the archway itself. Its attention shifted entirely to Silra now, blue eyes blazing with malevolent intent as it increased speed. The rogue's teal eyes tracked every movement, calculating angles and timing for an intercept strike that would cripple but not destroy—they needed this thing functional later for evidence.

Behind her, Jeane remained unconscious on the cold stone floor, her body gradually cooling despite Silra's active heat bubble. The sorceress's wings twitched weakly, and her skin had taken on a dangerous bluish tint—hypothermia was setting in faster than either of them had anticipated. Eight seconds until complete magical blackout if current conditions persisted. Seven. Six.

Silra's mind raced through options while maintaining perfect combat posture. The mechanical hostile was now mere feet away, its massive arms swiping wildly as it charged. The fusion experiments were perhaps thirty yards behind Jeane, their energy signatures growing more intense by the second. She couldn't let them reach her partner—Jeane's magical signature was already compromised enough without adding those entities' attention.

Three options presented themselves in rapid succession: abandon Jeane and focus on escape, attempt to drag Jeane into cover while fighting off both threats simultaneously, or... The third option involved calculated risk but potentially catastrophic reward. Silra's fingers tightened around her dagger hilt as she made her decision.

The mechanical hostile was almost upon her now, its body radiating enough heat to counter the corridor's chill momentarily—a fact not lost on the rogue as she prepared to execute her plan. This would either work brilliantly or get them both killed in spectacular fashion.
