Phase: resolution · forced · organic escalating

Jeane pressed herself against the wall of the narrow maintenance tunnel, trying to give Silra as much space as possible despite their forced proximity. The succubus's wings were folded tightly against her back, but even in this compacted posture, they brushed against the walls and ceiling with every movement. The constant dripping sound of water echoed through the confined space, punctuated by the distant hum of machinery. "Lead the way," Silra said, her voice tight with barely contained discomfort. "And try to keep it dry—my equipment doesn't like water." Jeane nodded, already moving deeper into the maintenance tunnels. Her crimson eyes scanned the darkness ahead, looking for any sign...
The gaunt figure watched them leave, his expression unreadable in the gloom. He made no move to follow, instead turning his attention back to the wreckage of the collapsed dock. The emergency services were still visible outside, their lights casting long shadows through the broken walls. Jeane and Silra needed to keep moving—every moment spent here increased the risk of discovery.
The tunnel opened up into a larger maintenance chamber, filled with rusted machinery and the lingering scent of oil and salt water. A heavy metal door stood partially ajar at the far end, leading deeper into the facility's interior. Jeane<|im_start|>ed the door open with her shoulder, wincing as the cold metal bit into her skin through her wet clothing. The hallway beyond was lined with flickering emergency lights, casting long shadows that danced across the walls.
"Where are we going?" Silra asked, her voice barely above a whisper as she followed Jeane into the corridor. "And how long can you keep that shield up?"
Jeane glanced back over her shoulder, her crimson eyes glowing faintly in the dim light. "I've got maybe thirty minutes before it starts to fail," she admitted, her voice tight with concentration. "We need to find a secure location—somewhere we can access a terminal and start looking for evidence of what really happened here."
Silra nodded, her teal eyes scanning the hallway ahead. "And if anyone asks?"
Jeane's lips curved into a smirk that didn't quite reach her eyes. "Let them try to explain why they're wandering around a crime scene in the middle of the night."
