Phase: resolution · forced · organic escalating

The water roared up from below like an awakened beast, hungry and relentless in its pursuit of their lives. Jeane felt her grip slip on the compromised catwalk as the flood surged past her ankles, climbing with terrifying speed toward her thighs and then her waist. Her crimson eyes locked onto Silra's teal ones across the rapidly shrinking air pocket—both women clinging to each other now as the water pressed in from all sides.
"You've got this," Jeane growled through clenched teeth, demonic strength barely enough to hold them both afloat against the rising pressure. Her wings beat uselessly against the interference field generated by the collapsing spell, leathery appendages offering no purchase or lift in the churning liquid. The shaft walls groaned ominously under strain, concrete cracking audibly as the water's force increased.
Silra's fingers blurred across the data chip screen one last time before she slammed it shut and tucked it into her jacket pocket—hack complete but system security already resetting protocols that would lock them both out permanently. Her teal gaze darted around their rapidly diminishing sanctuary, searching for any alternative escape route or miracle solution that hadn't presented itself during the previous frantic minutes of hacking.
"Fuck," she gasped as water lapped at her chin now, the cold liquid making her entire body tremble with fear and adrenaline. "We're fucked if we don't move NOW." Her grip on Jeane tightened painfully as she kicked upward, desperate to keep even a single breath of air between them and drowning.
Jeane surged upward with inhuman strength fueled by pure desperation, wings beating futilely against the water as she propelled them both toward the surface. The shaft's walls seemed to close in around them as they fought against the rushing liquid, concrete groaning ominously beneath renewed pressure. For a heart-stopping moment it felt like even her demonic strength wouldn't be enough—
And then they broke through into the main tunnel section, gasping for air as water poured down around them from the flooded shaft above. Jeane collapsed against the far wall, chest heaving while she fought to process their narrow escape. Her crimson gaze locked onto Silra's teal ones across the relative safety of dry concrete, both women soaked and shivering but very much alive.
"Well," Jeane panted, trying for a grin that came out more like a grimace, "at least we got the data before drowning completely." She held up the waterproof pouch containing the chip as proof of their success—hard-earned evidence clutched in trembling fingers while water continued to pour down around them both.
Silra shoved wet hair back from her face with a shaky laugh that bordered on hysterical. "Sure. Next time though, maybe let's avoid corporate facilities designed to flood on purpose when breached?" She tucked the retrieved device carefully into a different pocket while eyeing the still-gushing shaft with suspicion and lingering terror.
Jeane was already scanning their surroundings for the quickest exit route, her demonic nature allowing her to regain composure faster than a mortal would have managed. Her crimson gaze flickered back to Silra with something almost like amusement glinting in those usually cold eyes.
"Agreed. But we're not done yet—we still need to actually prove these secrets are worth exposing before someone decides to silence us permanently." She extended a hand down to Silra without looking back, already moving toward a rusted maintenance ladder leading up to a higher tunnel section. "Unless you'd rather swim back through that shaft and explain to the client why their evidence is now at the bottom of a flooded tunnel?"
Silra grabbed Jeane's offered hand with a muttered curse, letting the demon haul her up onto the ladder rungs beside her. "Fuck no. Let's get out of here before more water finds us." She started climbing after Jeane, teal eyes scanning the darkness ahead for any sign of pursuit or new threats while water continued to pour down around them both.
The sound of rushing liquid filled the tunnel as their escape continued, concrete groaning ominously beneath renewed pressure. Somewhere behind them in the?.
