Round 15

Phase: escalating

The room's magic pulsed with each beat of their hearts, the walls seeming to breathe around them. Silra stepped forward cautiously, her teal eyes narrowed as she studied the shadowy figure looming in the center of the space. The air was thick with something—arousal? No, this felt wrong. Like a predator waiting for prey to stumble into its lair.
"Potential," Jeane murmured, her wings fluttering restlessly behind her. "I sense... so much power concentrated here." Her crimson eyes gleamed in the flickering light as she focused on the shadow creature. But even as she spoke, Hera moved swiftly to Abby's side, pulling the younger woman back from where she'd reached out to caress the wall.
"Abby! Snap out of it!" Hera's voice cracked like a whip through the room. "Whatever this place is doing—resist it!"
Halie stepped back as well, her hand moving instinctively toward the hilt of a dagger concealed beneath her modest clothing. "We need to understand what's happening here before we go any further," she said sharply, her blue-grey eyes fixed on Jeane with suspicion and concern.
Silra glanced at Halie, noting the other woman's protective stance, then back to the shadow creature. This was definitely not part of the quest description. Something was very wrong with this "vulnerability room." She drew a small device from her pocket—a portable sensor that could detect magical signatures—and activated it, aiming it toward the figure.
"Whatever you are," she said coolly, "show yourself properly if you mean no harm."
The shadowy form seemed to shiver in response, its outline becoming more defined even as the magic in the room intensified. Jeane's wings beat faster, her eyes widening with genuine alarm this time.
"Silra..." she began, but whatever she was going to say next was cut off as the figure lunged forward with surprising speed, tendrils of shadow reaching out toward them all.
